He is just not fast enough (no one is) to connect it all before the next crisis takes our attention away. I agree that the mainstream-of-piss media has lived in 'Buncombe' longer than the progressive conservatives, and that both merely give the people what they ask for. When you don't ask for anything (as any letter to the editor proves) ignorance begs the informing of opinions and shaping of attitudes, not fact. Demanded fact, as in: Dear Editor, Could you please explain X and Y, so as we can come closer to understanding the governments intent with policy Z ???? what? thats no go to anyone sure - no blame, no wild-eyed indignation - in essense, why print that letter, which demands work, when The editor can choose some shame-piece from a follower of some -ism's retarded moral code. It is not the media's job to save NL. The fire department is not just gonna do a drive by everynight at 330AM, just in case you left the fat on the stove when you came home from Tol's. They are a service - not your mom. Des thinks Wangersky is his mommy-wommy? Rupert Murdock can't just go against the public and keep the page 3 girl because he decides tits are normal, and people are pruds, no more than any journalist can hold the multi-faceted project to light and risk running afoul of climate changers. Do you expect Telegram James, or Ashley to protect us from ourselves, at their peril? If so, we would be naive as to expect the 3rd floor of Hydro Place to all walk - and take the Herbert Hoover poster with them.... Yes climate changes. No, damming rivers will not help it, it will choke another flow system on the planet based on projected benefits based on terrible science. Gilbert Bennett teased us with this Fedreral emissions justification (I believe his projection on megatonnes of carbon saved was the closest thing to a fact in the entire script!) in The Telegram letter to the editor: http://www.thetelegram.com/Opinion/Letter-to-the-editor/2014-01-30/article-3595768/Discussion-about-Muskrat-Falls-should-be-based-on-facts/1
Do you expect the cocaine business and protitution to be solved by TC Media as well?
It is infotainment, and by rule must not offer any solution. It boggles my mind how any of what has gone on with respect to MF could not warrant deep investigation by journalists yet what do we get? Lame interviews in which the politicians and corporate types get to answer their own questions. A generation ago such a tactic would have been ridiculed en mass. As far as the CBC goes, every day brings a new journalistic low. The radio programs are filled with the most inane nonsense it defies belief by even the slowest thinkers among us. Do they really think their primary target group is composed of fifteen year olds? Imagine if could take just half of the budget they spend driving around reporting on damp pavement and filming snow falling to actually do research, ask questions, and write a story that makes people think instead of lulling them into a "have" induced coma. I guess it is much easier for the producers to wander down to the fax machine to see what's happening in our tiny world.

John d Pippy
Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03044966985727657714noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5235138415013046381.post-49312600266242898432014-01-30T09:31:31.089-03:302014-01-30T09:31:31.089-03:30Wow, no punches pulled here...and rightly so. I am...Wow, no punches pulled here...and rightly so. I am sick of tuning in to the supper hour newscast (all 90 minutes of it) and seeing at least 25% devoted to weather. It's ridiculous! CBC news has become a joke. The bulk of the information I've gotten on Muskrat Falls has been from bloggers and from Twitter. Last night, CBC had yet another "investigative" piece on hookers in St. John's. They obviously feel the scintillating is more worthy of discussion than anything that will effect us more deeply than the latest snowfall or fender bender.
