MUSKRAT FALLS NEEDS TO BE EXPOSED TO THE LIGHT

One of the unfortunate consequences of the Tory Leadership troubles and the Humber Valley Paving affair is that the Muskrat Falls Project has slid off the public radar.

The Government has given Nalcor sanction to spend billions of dollars in the absence of structured and resourced ‘oversight’.  The Agency essentially has carte blanche access to the public purse.

Nalcor continues to post job figures and expenditures without offering proof of progress on the Muskrat Falls site.

We are not in possession of the latest project cost estimates or a revised construction schedule; the latter a major concern of the Independent Engineer (IE).

Readers are reminded it is not the IE’s job to sound alarm; its chief role is simply to make sure the $5 billion Bond funding, on which the Feds have a guarantee, is not spent on overruns.

In short, the public is in the dark on the Muskrat Falls project. Take a look at a prime example, the $1 billion Astaldi contract.

MARITIME LINK: THE UARB HEARS AN INCONSISTENT TRUTH

The Nova Scotia UARB has just completed hearings to review the Nalcor/Emera deal on the Maritime Link.  That Agency is determining whether NL has committed enough “surplus” or “market-priced” power to Nova Scotia on terms that will allow it to approve the Link as the lowest cost option. The UARB outlined its conditions in a July 22, 2013 Decision.

The Government and Nalcor need the UARB's approval; it is essential to obtaining the Federal Loan Guarantee. Some of the information given the UARB is different than the version told in NL.

Nalcor and the Government are having a tough time keeping their story straight.

NALCOR’S AGM: ONE QUESTION FOR ED MARTIN ON “THE NORTH SPUR INSTABILITY PROBLEM”

Since Nalcor’s last Annual General Meeting, the $7.7 billion Muskrat Falls Project was sanctioned and the construction site is busy with contractors.  There are no surprises to report, just yet, right?

Actually, that’s not correct.
